Agi & Sam

I don’t really know where to start with this whole serious blog business so for my first contribution I’m just going to use it to rave about my favourite menswear designers yet again.

Agi & Sam was set up by Agi Mdumulla and Sam Cotton and is based in London. In their profile on the London Collections website here it says “With a strong emphasis on entirely bespoke print and humour, we believe that fashion should never be taken too seriously. We also endeavour to sit firmly in the middle of brands that fear creating something different and those which push collections too far.” That sums up what I love about them perfectly. Although their latest collection seems to be more understated in places it also includes outfits like this one, which I’m pretty sure is inspired in terms of print by the kind of prints you see on public transport:

The fact that this seems toned down compared to some of their past collections is a sign of just how beautifully weird some of them have been.

Due to the relative lack of print in collection (I say that although it’s still has more print than many other collections around at the same time) this isn’t one of my favourites though. That honour goes to their autumn/winter collection for this year. It was inspired by the Marquess of Bath, who in case you haven’t heard of him or seen him before looks like this:

That should give you an idea of where the collection comes from. Somehow the actual collection inspired by him is pretty classy as well as being completely mad though so you end up with images like these:

It helps that they keep the garments themselves relatively simple and yet the colours and prints speak for themselves.

Another favourite collection of mine is this one, which was produced for Topman. It was based around the idea of having a football team which they called The Owls. As the name would suggest this means most of the printed pieces have prints inspired by those birds, but they’re much more interesting than the bulk of most bird inspired prints around on the high street at the moment.

The main piece I covet though isn’t printed at all. It’s the yellow blazer in the image below. Unfortunately, even at a reduced price it was still out of my budget. I can dream though.

If you want to see more of their collections then the best place to go is their website here, which is where I got all of the images of their collections from.
